Since 1999, the NAMM Foundation has conducted the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Survey, a nationwide search for communities whose programs exemplify a commitment to music education. The 2012 survey launches on Friday January 20 and concludes Friday, March 9.
The survey is open to teachers, school administrators and Board of Education members who wish to enter information about their school and community. Only one survey application per school district or community is permitted. The projected announcement of the BCME final roster is April 16, 2012.
What is the Best Communities for Music Education program?
The survey asks detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and other relevant factors about their communities’ music education programs. The responses are verified with district officials, and advisory organizations review the data. Throughout the survey’s history, many districts have reported that making the “Best Communities” list has had a positive effect on their ability to preserve music for their students amid budget cuts in arts programs.
