NAMM members and guests gathered to expand their expertise as state and local advocates at a meeting of the SupportMusic's Coalition on Coalitions during The 2016 NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA.
NAMM Members in attendance learned strategic steps for expanding music education in their states and local communities. Examples included developing partnerships, leading by example, and researching ways to get involved.
Special guest advocacy and policy expert Jeff M. Poulin, Arts Education Program Coordinator, Americans for the Arts motivated the crowd of fifty.
“Commit to your power to be an advocate,” he said. The mantra was repeated by attendees.
NAMM members currently involved in state-level, music-education advocacy efforts were present from the following states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin.
