Each winter, NAMM Foundation partners and nonprofits gather in Anaheim, Ca, to participate in the unique networking opportunity that is The NAMM Show. 10 partners, 18 grantees, and 57 nonprofits were represented this year at The 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, Ca, Jan. 19-22, 2017. NAMM Foundation partners and nonprofits attended a networking reception on Thursday night, the first-annual set of Nonprofit Roundtables, and other educational sessions.
Roundtable topics included Best Practices for Fundraising, facilitated by David Dik, national executive director of Young Audiences for Learning; Board Selection and Management, facilitated by David Dik and Dalouge Smith, president and ceo of San Diego Youth Symphony; and Advance Your Mission by Upping Your Social Media Game, facilitated by B.J. Morgan, marketing manager of the Museum of Making Music.
Smith was thrilled to have so many of NAMM's nonprofits and partners attend roundtable sessions to learn and improve their work.
“Just as learning a musical instrument requires practice and dedication, the same is true for fund raising,” he said. “It was an honor having a chance to share best practices and examples with colleagues so dedicated to the cause of music and music education."
After discussing ideas with organizations at the show, Dik was struck by the role of nonprofits in the modern world.
“Musicians have historically played many roles; performers, entrepreneurs, activists, contributors,” said Dik. “The Nonprofit Roundtables explored other aspects: philanthropist, educator, citizen and advocate.”
