“Any time the words music education come up, I'm pretty passionate about it,” said Hayes. “For me, it's as much as about finding one’s self as it is about learning music. I grew up in a musically rich culture. In Louisiana, we're very passionate about history and heritage, and there's traditional music.”

Sound Bites from the Episodes
“And what I tell students is, my mother was a classical pianist and a music teacher. That’s my background. She tried to teach me how to play the piano, but I wanted to play football. But I learned by being there. And that's what helped me in my timing, and having very quick fingers, being a DJ. So, I tell the kids who [want to] be a DJ or a rapper or something like that…you need to have some type of musical background, because that's what's going to make you great.” - Arabian Prince, co-founder of N.W.A.
“My mom is a piano teacher. I mean, I just can't tell you how over the moon she is about [teaching].” – Vanessa Carlton
“I have a six-year-old at home and having musical instruments around the house is really important. And he goes through phases between wanting to play the piano or the drum set and Minecraft. So, like, I try to [say] ‘Why don't you play this synthesizer?’ But the school we picked for him has got a really strong musical component to it, and that's important to us.” - Dan Konopka, Drummer for OK Go
“I actually just got to work with a really cool, Nashville School of the Arts. It was inspiring because walking through there the first time, we got to be a part of a renovation that happened in their studio/music creative space. We got to be a small part of a renovation there, and walking to the school the first time … was really inspiring because the only thing I kept thinking was, I wish I had this in high school.” – Hunter Hayes
